In most cases, spouses will not be permitted to work in the United States during the term of the assignment and this can create tremendous stress. The spouse may have a professional career that has to be put on hold or the loss of income may impact the family's lifestyle. We can provide information on educational and volunteer opportunities for the spouse to remain active and involved in the new community.
•
Language is not necessarily the obstacle you might imagine. We investigate language translation services to make available should the need arise.
•
If pets are permitted, they can be subject to lengthy quarantine periods to ensure they are disease free. Depending on the type of pet, recent health certificates from a veterinarian will likely be required to waive the quarantine period.
•
Cross-cultural training or information is critical. We do a needs assessment to see if the use of a professional outside firm would benefit the individual or family.
Weir Manuel Relocation can perform services that help attract and retain your valuable investment. International employees generally need more hands-on assistance than typical domestic transferees, particularly if they have not traveled extensively or lived abroad.
Often, international employees feel that their questions and concerns are elementary, or unusual, and they may hesitate to ask an employer representative because they don't want to appear inexperienced or foolish, or they may be questions of a more personal nature. As a professional outside party, we can provide focused attention, sensitivity and confidentiality to increase the employee's comfort level and enable him to overcome challenges which might not be addressed otherwise. Situations like this can bring serious threats to the success of the assignment.
We provide comprehensive and caring resettlement assistance to ensure the employee is able to focus on the job and not the difficulty of the family's assimilation into the United States way of life.
Getting Started
We provide personal assistance to welcome the family to the area:
Day One Meet the family at the airport and take them to their hotel. We go over their welcome package and create an agenda specifically tailored to meet their needs.
Day Two
The employee is normally doing orientation with the employer. We might work separately with the spouse today, depending on their comfort level.
Day Three
Hit the ground at 8:30am! Give an area orientation tour, visit the Social Security Office, Secretary of State, stop to eat lunch and talk about automobile insurance options (provide them with a list of providers).
Day Four
Look at apartments/housing availability and go over utilities and appliances. Visit schools or daycare facilities and set up their banking.
Day Five
Time to make decisions on housing, furniture for the temporary accommodations. Do some shopping and introduce them to international affiliations.
