Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel Realtors Raises Money for Homeless Animals At Dream Cruise
Four animal shelters set up shop in the Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel Realtors parking lot in what has become a tradition: helping the public become aware of the plight of homeless animals during the Dream Cruise weekend.
The rescues in attendance collected nearly $500 from passersby, and one dog, Brice, a sweet Staffordshire mix, was adopted from Almost Home Animal Haven. One way Almost Home raised money was to have a photo taken with a rescue dog (and you'll see some of those photos on our slideshow!)
Fur-Ever Home sold water and pop, with the proceeds going to their animals. Steve Cole, one of our Coldwell Banker Weir Manuel trusted advisors, helped out throughout the day.
Two greyhound rescues, Greyhound Expressions and Greyheart, brought a number of beautiful and gentle greyhounds as ambassadors of the breed. They were a tremendous hit with the crowd.
This year has been especially hard on animals, said Kelly Sweeney, owner and CEO of Weir Manuel. Many pets have been abandoned by their owners due to tough economic times. It is not just people who suffer when a home goes into foreclosure. Rescues are doing a tremendous job , continued Sweeney, but the situation now is overwhelming. Pets arrive at shelters by the thousands every month. We're hoping our event draws attention to this intolerable situation.
We urge you to make adoption your first choice if you are thinking of adding a pet to your household. Here are the websites of the shelters at the Dream Cruise.
